Tragedy as woman dies after horror crash inside major UK motorway tunnel

A woman in her 60s has died after her Jaguar F-Type crashed into the central reservation inside the Hatfield tunnel on the A1(M).

A woman in her 60s has tragically died after her Jaguar F-Type crashed inside the Hatfield tunnel on the A1(M) on Friday night. 

The accident occurred shortly after 9pm as she was heading north through the tunnel in Hertfordshire.

The green Jaguar crossed the carriageway and collided with the central reservation, resulting in a fatal crash. 

Hertfordshire Police confirmed that the woman died at the scene. 

Her family has been informed and are being supported by officers during this difficult time.

Sergeant Alex Ward from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, and Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit expressed condolences.

They said: "Our thoughts are with the woman’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time. Enquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances around what happened."

Authorities are appealing for witnesses who may have seen the collision or the vehicle traveling in the area prior to the accident. 

They are particularly interested in any dash cam footage that could aid the investigation.

No other vehicles are believed to have been involved in the crash.
