A unique property has just come to the market that is perfect for anyone longing to get far from the madding crowd.

It's a freehold island, measuring about 2,000 square feet with a riverfront perimeter of about 250ft. And it could be yours for around £75,000.

Temple Weir Island, on the market with Savills, is located in the River Thames - between the highly sought-after towns of Henley and Marlow, in Oxfordshire.  A domed pergola stands in the middle of the island - which has previously been used for mooring and recreational use.

The island, which also includes a small underwater sandbank,  is being sold through a sealed bid process. Interested buyers need to submit offers before noon on July 5.

Property agent Richard Maby told the Maidenhead Advertiser: “The seller has used the island for mooring a private vessel and recreational use, such as private entertainment and fishing.

“One side has a built-up mooring, the other a more natural tree-lined bank. A domed stone pergola also stands in the middle of the island, which makes for an interesting and attractive feature.

Mr Maby added: “It’s a rare opportunity for someone to purchase their own off-grid sanctuary. You can only reach the island by boat and there is no gas, water or electricity.

“For those with a spirit for adventure, who are looking for somewhere they can escape to after a busy day it’s the perfect hideaway.”

Temple Weir Island is located in the downstream weir pool near Temple Lock. It provides access to the river upstream towards Henley and downstream towards Marlow.
