Without a dishwasher, you may find that washed glassware is covered in water marks, no matter how often you clean them.

Thankfully, cleaning expert Jane Wilson at Fantastic Cleaners revealed how to get glassware and cutlery to look sparkly clean.

"Unsightly water marks on hand-washed cutlery and glasses can be frustrating," Jane empathised. However, she pointed out a natural method to "quickly and easily get rid of water stains".

"White vinegar is a natural and effective solution for removing water marks," said Jane. "The acetic acid in vinegar helps dissolve mineral deposits."

Jane instructed: "First, prepare the solution. Mix equal parts of white vinegar and warm water in a bowl.

"Then, soak the stained cutlery and glasses in the solution for about 10 to 15 minutes." Jane added: "Then rinse and dry immediately with a soft, lint-free cloth to prevent new water marks from forming."

Another natural cleaning solution is baking soda paste, which is gentle but strong enough to scrub away stubborn water marks without scratching glassware.

"Make the paste by combining baking soda with a small amount of water," said Jane. "Apply it with a soft cloth to the water-stained areas of the cutlery and glasses."

She added: "Gently scrub in circular motions, then rinse thoroughly with warm water and dry immediately."

Even lemon juice can work because of its natural acidity, making it an "excellent" option for removing mineral deposits and water marks.

"Cut a lemon in half and rub it directly onto the water-stained areas of the cutlery and glasses," Jane directed. "Allow the lemon juice to sit for five to 10 minutes to break down the mineral deposits. Rinse thoroughly with warm water and dry immediately with a soft cloth."

All three of these natural remedy solutions require the same finishing touch - drying the glassware with a lint-free cloth. This means leaving glassware to dry naturally is only going to lead to more frustrating water marks.

So, the next time you wash up, it's best to dry the glassware promptly afterwards to result in clean-looking glassware that you won't be embarrassed to serve to guests.
