Some weeds can be pretty, but growing in an undesirable location, causing them to stand out.

They are generally plants which are fast-growing and thrive in most types of conditions.

To help kill them fast, gardeners have taken to the Gardening Hints and Tips Facebook page to share their ideas.

John Bennett wrote: “We have weeds growing in between our paving in the garden and it’s driving me nuts.

“I’ve tried to use everything but weed killer as we have pets but it’s not working, any help would be appreciated.”

Weed killers can be used around pets if precaution is taken, but most shop-purchased ones are not healthy for animals to be around.

Instead, group members recommended a variety of hacks, including bleach.

Sally Baker commented: “Apply one cup of bleach, undiluted, to the affected area.

“Wait until the weeds turn brown before pulling them out of the ground.

“Run water around the area to flush the bleach, especially if you are trying to keep the patio free from weeds.”

Helen Doyle wrote: “Bleach is a game-changing hack I learnt years ago which will kill weeds instantly.

“It is strong so be careful but also super affordable and easy, unlike some other hacks.”

The experts at The Grass People said: “Undiluted bleach can kill weeds growing through the cracks in your walkway or driveway.

“The best way to do this is to spray undiluted bleach on the weeds and let them stand. The solution will kill existing weeds and help prevent new ones from sprouting, but be warned.

“Bleach will kill grass, flowers and other vegetation as well, so be sure to use it only on harder surfaces and not near or on organic matter.”

If opting to use bleach, animals and children should be kept inside until the weed has dried out and is pulled up.

Bleach can be purchased for as little as 30p a bottle from most retailers.
