One of the most popular motoring experts on YouTube has shared his thoughts on a long-awaited all-electric pickup truck that has received attention from drivers all over the world.

Scotty Kilmer is a mechanic who has worked on cars for more than 55 years and now regularly makes YouTube videos in which he shares advice that can prevent breakdowns and help viewers save money.

In a recent video, Scotty takes a look at the Tesla Cybertruck, stating that it has an incredibly unusual design but offers a large amount of carrying capacity.

He explained: "I do have to say, it's the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen. It looks like something Homer Simpson would have made as a truck, right? Now, it doesn't really look like a truck but, believe it or not, it's got this kind of Rolodex thing on the back.

"So, if we push this, you can see it is indeed sort of a pickup, and the weird thing is it's got the button to make the tailgate go down, this is an electric car after all, but it doesn't have a button to make it go up. To do that, you actually have to push it up with your bare hands."

First announced in November 2019, the Tesla Cybertruck is an all-electric pickup truck that features incredibly futuristic styling, comprising of sharp angles and flat panels.

In its most powerful form, the Cybertruck is capable of carrying up to 1,100kg and offers a maximum range of 470 miles with the range extender fitted.

Whilst the model has been on sale in America since November 2023, there are no official plans to introduce it to the UK market due to weight and safety concerns.

Getting inside the Cybertruck, Scotty noted that it is by no means conventional, with drivers pressing a button on the steering wheel to indicate and looking at the touchscreen to see behind them.

He added: "You don't get a key, you've got a card which goes in here, we have some kind of synthetic material on the seats which is pretty comfortable, and a big sunroof which is opaque, so you're not going to get too hot in here, and that is rather large.

"At least they put the turn signals here [on the steering yoke] now, so we don't have to push anything on the touchscreen now. You get a good view [of surroundings on the touchscreen], and you can get a full view by pushing a button on the steering column. The screen is extremely high resolution too, I'll give them that."

Finally taking to the road, the mechanic was critical of the unusually small yoke-like steering wheel, which is a lot more sensitive than most vehicles, but was nonetheless impressed by the Tesla's performance.

He continued: "Here we go with the weird steering wheel, I feel like I'm flying a plane, I'm not driving a car. This little steering wheel takes a while [to get used to] because it really oversteers. You turn it a little bit, but it actually turns a lot.

"On these Rhode Island bumps [potholes], it's really not doing so well; you do feel every bump. Now, we don't have to worry about traction, it is all-wheel drive. The fancy one has three motors, but this one has two. Anyway, let's see what this thing can do. It is wicked fast, there's no arguing that."
