Brian May flags in Lewis Hamilton in Silverstone F1

Since his appearance at the British Grand Prix on Sunday, Sir Brian May has come under fire from fans (July 7). The legendary Queen guitarist was in Silverstone for the F1 event which saw Lewis Hamilton's triumphant victory.

He waved the chequered flag as the motor racing ace crossed the finish line and took to his Instagram to share his excitement with his 3.3 million followers. Posting a short clip of him brandishing the famous flag he called it an "honour".

"I got the greatest honour !!! Flagging in Lewis Hamilton to Victory in the Silverstone F1. How could I get more lucky? Great Day - respects to all. Bri." However, his comment failed to address his recent snub of commentator Martin Brundle and Channel 4 pundits live on air and fans were quick to draw attention to this.

Viewers at home had watched as the Sky Sports pundit approached the music icon but was dismissed with an admission that he doesn't know much about Formula One. Martin later stated he respected the musician's honesty.

Sir Brian also snubbed Channel 4 pundits when they approached him. The station had sent motor racing legend David Coulthard onto the grid alongside Australian F1 legend Mark Webber.

But when the pair asked Sir Brian for a word live on Channel 4, he looked at them, laughed and said "no".

David told viewers Brian was “feeling shy despite all those years of rocking".

Fans took to the comments to pull up the scientist and musician on the slight.

@jan.whaley scolded: "Disappointed you didn't speak to Martin Brundle. Looked really bad. Being polite takes nothing. Thought you were better than that."

@richardwhite380350 pointed out: "By not talking to Brundle you missed a chance to talk to your fans. I was so disappointed!"

@sarafellxx fumed: "How rude of you to ignore Martin Brundle AND David Coulthard and Mark "ebber? Very poor but happy to take the checkered flag."
@gsikent64 opined: "I would have liked you to have said a few words. You must have known who Martin Brundle is? We hang on your words so often but I never thought you were too big to talk to us. Maybe some bad advice given to you today. If you get the opportunity to have a grid walk again we would love to hear from you."
@nephillips71 chimed in: "Very disappointed with your manner on the grid @brianmayforreal you’re better than that."
@richearth17 added: "Shame you wouldnt speak to the media on the grid. The ONLY reason you were invited to be there. You are normally a Gentleman but not today. Maybe having a bad day."
