Countryfile marriage woes - divorce, cancer heartbreak and 'sad' split truth

Countryfile has been on screens since 1988 looking at the rural and environmental issues of the British countryside.

Countryfile features Three Rivers Race

BBC’s Countryfile has regularly aired since 1988 and gained a loyal viewership following by exploring various rural and agricultural issues.

The documentary series has become staple of Sunday night viewing for millions of families across the country.

It has also seen a number of presenters over the years including Anita Rani, Adam Henson and Helen Skelton who currently front the TV show.

While they have enjoyed successful onscreen careers for decades the trio have also endured hardships away from the cameras.

Although they usually keep their personal lives away from the public, these presenters have regularly spoken out about key moments in their lives.

As well as taking on Strictly Come Dancing and being a Radio 4 host, Anita is best recognised for her role on Countryfile which she started in 2015.

The 46-year-old recently opened up about divorcing her husband of 14-years Bhupi Rehal, after they grew apart due to their hectic schedules.

Anita told Good Housekeeping: “I'm in uncharted territory. I'm a single, Asian woman with no children, and do you know what? I love it! I've sort of got a blank slate in front of me, and that feels really good.”

The star also gave fans a peek into her new home after moving back into a flat she purchased 20 years ago, which she called her “little sanctuary.”

Adam, whose love for animals and wildlife won over viewers previously opened up about his wife Charlie Gilbert's battle with cancer.

After a significant tumour was discovered on her pancreas, he put their relationship into perspective and they got married after almost 30 years together.

Charlie told The Mirror: "After 28 years together you do get a bit complacent, but getting married was suddenly really important - we didn't know how long we had left, and I wanted Adam to know I was committed to him."

As Adam shared: "We cried a lot. Those vows cemented my emotions and let me say from the heart how I feel about Charlie.

"The registrar wasn't aware of our situation and said she'd never had such an emotional couple. For us, it was a way of saying goodbye to everyone."

Helen has been a familiar face on screens after co-presenting BBC’s Blue Peter in 2008 and then Countryfile in 2014.

She married the England and Leeds Rhinos rugby league star Richie Myler in 2013 and together they have three children, Ernie, Louis, and Elsie.

However, Helen’s marriage came to a shocking end after eight years and only addressed the break-up in her 2023 book, My Stride.

She penned: “I was in shock. I know that following break-ups, people often say they didn’t see it coming and it sounds like a cliché, but that was me.”
