Jane McDonald opens up on regret after tipping James Martin in 'terrible' error
Jane McDonald was left red-faced as the Cruising singer was outed following an awkward encounter with Saturday Morning chef James Martin.
Jane McDonald recalled the moment she bumped into chef James Martin as she enjoyed some downtime at a retreat. The Cruising singer suffered a "terrible" blunder when meeting the Saturday Morning star for the first time.
Speaking to former Loose Women presenter, Kate Thornton, on her podcast White Wine Question Time about her life and career the 61-year-old was inundated with recorded messages via WhatsApp from her former colleagues and friends, leaving Jane feeling overwhelmed.
One notable message came from her pal Denise Welch, who revealed Jane had mistaken James for her butler.
Denise began: "I mentioned this yesterday Kate, James Martin, the chef - was greeting Jane outside a house and she didn't know who he was.
"She thought he was the concierge or the butler to which she was accustomed and she just started to hand him all of her bags.
"So he politely took several of her bags up many, many stairs and he came back down. She said, 'oh, you've left these ones...' as she swanned past him into the house."
Host Kate mused: "Oh, Jane."
The Cruising singer broke out in hysterics as she recalled their first encounter but later clarified the pair are now good friends.
"That's terrible," Jane commented. "I gave him a good tip, though."
She continued: "The funny thing is I'm really good mates with James now. It's lovely that he has that story to tell. Also, he makes the best cakes ever. I like a man who puts proper calories in a cake."
