Edinburgh is set to be hotter than California as forecasters predict highs of 20C for the capital.

Meteorologists at the BBC believe the city will see a brief hot spell on July 17 and 18.

Residents in the capital have been disappointed with what the summer has had to offer with showers being almost constant since the beginning of June.

But it seems as though the weather in Edinburgh is a late bloomer with locals at last able to bask in the sun.

From Monday July 15, temperatures will climb up to 19C however the skies will remain overcast above Auld Reekie.

Tuesday 16 will continue where Monday left off but the good news is that clear skies and bright sunshine is expected for 3pm and will last until 9pm.

On Wednesday 17, we will see one of the hottest days of the year so far, with the mercury climbing up to 20C - making it hotter than Santa Cruz, California, which will be a chilly 13.

Wednesday will see glorious sunshine from start to finish, with clear skies and a gentle breeze, meaning it will be the perfect conditions for a round of golf or family barbecue.

Thursday 18 will be much of the same, with the early afternoon turning slightly overcast, before temperatures peak at 20C at 4pm.

Friday 19 will start with clear guys and glorious sunshine but sadly the rain will once again return, with showers plaguing the weekend despite temperatures remaining at a consistent 19C.
