Popular Edinburgh city centre pub Shandwick's is to close permanently following a sudden announcement, Edinburgh Live can reveal.

The boozer, on South Charlotte Street, will close for the final time on Saturday night, July 6, with the news coming as a shock to punters in and around Edinburgh.

A member of staff confirmed the closure after several posts surfaced online in recent days regarding the future of the pub, although the reason behind the closure remains unknown.

Posting on X on Saturday, one user wrote: "Shandwick's in Edinburgh closing after today is not the Saturday news I needed." On June 28 another tweet was posted regarding the closure.

The pub has been an ever-present in the city centre, known for its cheap pints and lively atmosphere. The pub's Instagram page labels it the "best and cheapest pub in Edinburgh."

Bosses at the pub have been approached for comment regarding the reason behind the closure.
