Telfar Clemens has always taken an unconventional approach to flogging his in-demand shopping bags. In the past he’s allowed shoppers to decide the price of his items with a dynamic pricing tool, banished bots with CAPTCHAs that doubled as impossible riddles, and even hosted a fashion show live on The Wendy Williams Show (gone, but never forgotten). Now, the US label is back with another drop of its small, medium and large shopping bags, and this time it’s to celebrate the Muslim festival of Eid.
In a post on its Instagram page, the brand revealed that it was dropping every size and every colour of its famous bags for 24 hours only, starting today at 12pm eastern time (which is 5pm in the UK). Along with its caption announcing the sale, the label paired this with a carousel of its Muslim customer base, showing off how they style their own Telfar bags.
Following Telfar’s celebration of the US holiday Thanksgiving last year, the online response welcomed the brand’s continued commitment to spotlighting different cultural events. “Bless Telfar for being the only brand that remembers Muslim holidays,” wrote one user on Instagram. “I love you Telfar thank you for remembering Eid too,” wrote another.
As well as celebrating Eid al-Adha, Telfar will also donate 10 per cent of the profits from today’s drop to organisations supporting Palestinian liberation. At the moment, the brand hasn’t stated which organisations it is donating to specifically, but watch this space for any updates on that.
