A list of resources to support Palestinians in Gaza

In light of the recent attacks in Rafah, here’s a list of resources to help you get involved in the fight for Palestinian liberation and support those in Gaza

On Sunday (26 May), an Israeli airstrike killed 45 people in a tent camp in Rafah, a Palestinian city in the southern Gaza Strip. Rafah was meant to be a designated safe zone from Israel’s military campaign in Gaza, but witnesses state that at least eight missiles struck the camp and have continued to do so since Sunday.

Since October 7, when Hamas killed nearly 1,200 Israelis, roughly 36,224 Palestinians have been killed by Israel’s military onslaught, with 81,777 wounded and 80 per cent of the population internally displaced at the time of writing.

It is easy to feel hopeless during times like these. But in the UK, many of our universities invest in companies which arm the Israeli military. And if you are an American citizen, it is your taxes that are used to create the bombs that killed dozens in Rafah. We do not have the right to feel hopeless.

In light of the recent attacks, here’s a list of resources to help you get involved in the fight for Palestinian liberation and support those in Gaza.

DONATE

Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) is still providing on-the-ground support to Palestinians living under Israeli occupation and as refugees.

On Monday (27 May), Israel bombed the outside of The Kuwaiti Hospital in Rafah, killing two medical staff. As a result, the hospital was forced out of service. Doctors told MAP that they desperately needed beds, incubators, and medicine. MAP provides immediate medical aid. Through donating to MAP, you can save lives.

You can also donate to the British Red Cross, who supply vital aid to those in the Occupied Palestinian Territories; Save the Children, which has been working for children’s rights in Gaza and the West Bank since 1953); Muslim Hands, who provide safe drinking water, bread and emergency medical care, and Amos Trust who provide support to emergency health clinics in Rafah and so much more.

All over the internet, from TikTok, to X, to Instagram, you can also find countless GoFundMe’s from Palestinians trying to flee from Gaza. This is probably one of the most direct ways to support Palestinians. If you cannot donate, share their links on social media and with your friends and family.

EDUCATE

Since November 2023, Verso Books has had a section of its site dedicated to Palestine, spotlighting books on the history of occupation situated in the wider context of anti-colonial struggles worldwide.

Additionally, Haymarket Books has released four free ebooks: Essays for a Free Palestine, edited by Sai Englert, Michal Schatz, and Rosie Warren; Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions: The Global Struggle for Palestinian Rights by Omar Barghouti; Light in Gaza: Writings Born of Fire, edited by Jehad Abusalim, Jennifer Bing, and Mike Merryman-Lotze; and Palestine: A Socialist Introduction, edited by Sumaya Awad and Brian Bean. You can find them here.

Some of the most trusted reports on the genocide come from publications such as Al Jazeera, The Palestine Chronicle, Middle East Eye, Maktoob Media, and Palestinian journalist and activist Bisan Owda, who is reporting directly from Gaza. Several Palestinian journalists have now fled Gaza, but you can still learn about what is happening from Palestinians on X who post about living under occupation, such as Muhammad Smiry.

You can also find a more comprehensive reading list about Palestine here.

TAKE ACTION

WRITE TO YOUR MP: It may feel pointless, but we must keep giving our elected officials hell. We must continue to let them know that we do not support this genocide, even if they ignore our emails. You can find the information to write to your MP here.

BOYCOTT: Palestinians have also asked us to boycott several companies profiting from the genocide of the Palestinian people. Here is a complete list of the targeted consumer boycotts, divestments and pressure campaigns.

PROTEST: On Saturday (8 June), the National Demonstration for Gaza will be marching to demand that governments stop arming Israel and call for a permanent ceasefire. With the general election looming, it’s essential to show all political parties that they must act to stop the genocide in Gaza if they want our vote. You can learn more information about the march here.

National marches happen roughly once a month, so it’s important to know what actions are happening between those periods. The Instagram page Events for Palestine in London spotlights actions that are happening for Palestine daily. If you’re not in London, search the word ‘Palestine’ along with the name of your town, and you’ll be surprised to see that there are probably events happening in your town.

Lastly, support students who are camping at their universities. Each encampment has a social media page, and they often share when they have planned marches or need help and support. They also post the resources that they need and are running out of, so if you have some spare cash, support the students as best you can.
