About
Dalton offers its 1,300 students a wide array of stimulating and challenging programs taught by passionate and dedicated faculty. Outstanding academic offerings are complemented by exemplary performing and fine arts curricula – taught by faculty who are professionals in their fields – and a full range of athletic teams and extracurricular activities.

The main subjects of our curriculum must be taught synthetically—that is, in their relation to each other—and not in self-contained compartments. Only in the synthetic way, only by realizing and constantly emphasizing that to know something of humanity, we must study and correlate History, the environment, Science, Literature, and Art, to make knowledge a living and fruitful organism.

First Program
Through experiential, inquiry-based activities, students acquire skills, deepen their understanding and think creatively. We meet children where they are, helping them work through challenges and enhance their strengths. Teachers offer instruction, encourage children to ask questions, and to participate actively in their learning. -
Middle School
Our talented and innovative faculty create curricula and programs that encourage students to embrace inquiry, engage in independent thinking, advocate for themselves, feel empowered to make choices, and collaborate on authentic problems by finding value in varied perspectives. -
High School
Along with the high school's rigorous academics, Dalton produces students of strong moral character and strengthens the instinct and ability to build community. We encourage academic, artistic, and athletic excellence while expecting our students to self-advocate within a community defined by acts of civic engagement, kindness, and social justice. -
Library
The libraries offer a rich and diverse program to support all aspects of the school's curriculum while fostering a lifelong love of reading and learning. Group and individual instruction are ongoing both in the library settings and in collaboration with teachers in their classrooms. We also provide a variety of experiences for students including visits from guest authors and interactive programs both during the school day and after school. -
Arts
The school's philosophy is premised on first-hand experience, and this is the foundation of the Arts at Dalton. The dance, drama, music, and visual arts departments express the soul of the Dalton program. With the Performing Arts Center, the Martin Theater, and extensive dance, visual, and media arts studios, the school offers its students access to outstanding facilities. -
Athletics
The Dalton offers a wide array of sports; students are encouraged to play based on their abilities and interests. We sponsor more than 50 teams for grades 7 through 12 – one of the largest & most diverse among independent schools in New York City. Many Dalton athletes have continued their athletic careers at the collegiate level. -
Technology
The New Lab for Teaching and Learning (NLTL) was created to explore how computers and advanced information technologies can help build the schools of tomorrow. The mission today of NLTL is to support and enhance the practice of The Dalton Plan through the purposeful and innovative use of technology. -
After School
Dalton offers an After School Program to all K–8th grade students. The program runs instructional classes from 3:15– 4:30 PM for grades K-8. At First Program, students select from a broad range of courses including Computer Fun and Games, Tennis, Beyond Lego, Guitar, Woodworking, Hip Hop, Mini-Musical, Cooking, French, Photography, and many more. -
Dalton Summer
A Dalton Summer Camp offers a balanced schedule of physical, creative, and fun-filled activities in a relaxed and nurturing environment. The program varies according to the ages, needs, and interests of the children. We keep in mind that early childhood is filled with wonders and work to maintain each child’s sense of joy. Our goal is to stimulate and broaden every child’s interest in the world around them.
