Ex-tennis star Camila Giorgi has given fans an update after she secretly retired from the sport earlier this year.

The Italian, 32, reportedly chose to quit the tour to concentrate on her blossoming career as a lingerie model and fashion designer.

She's thought to have pocketed around £5million in prize money throughout her tennis career. However, in May, Giorgi bid farewell to the game for good, with her last match being a straight-sets loss to World No1 Iga Swiatek in the second round of the Miami Open back in March.

Since then, she's been more or less off the radar. But on Monday, the former World No26 gave followers a glimpse into her new life via Instagram. She posted a captionless mirror selfie on her story, donning a pair of denim shorts and a low-cut beige top.

Following her defeat at the Miami Open in May, Giorgi sparked controversy by failing to appear at her various scheduled tour dates. The WTA (Women's Tennis Association) issued a statement saying they had been unable to reach her, leading to a frantic search to find her.

Eventually, Giorgi revealed that she had decided to retire, but only after rumours started swirling that she had fled to the USA from her native Italy following queries over her tax returns. Her legal team later refuted that her retirement was linked to her alleged tax problems, asserting that she had already planned to conclude her career.

In a bizarre turn of events, La Repubblica reports via Corriere della Serra that Camila Giorgi has been accused of stealing lucractive items from a villa she was renting with her family, including plush rugs and antique tables. Giorgi's legal team hit back, stating that her leaving the villa was just a "temporary" move due to "a divergence of views within the family". They also stressed that she had "no intention of escaping investigations or responsibilities".

Not long after the drama unfolded, Giorgi took to Instagram, where she boasts a hefty 740,000 followers, to say: "There have been many inaccurate rumours about my future plans, so I hope to provide more information about the interesting opportunities I will have in the future."

Apart from making the quarter-finals at Wimbledon in 2018, Giorgi hasn't managed to push past the fourth round in any major during her 14 years on the tour.
