Liverpool's owners, Fenway Sports Group (FSG), have confirmed they're in talks to purchase Bordeaux.

FSG are in the "early stages of dialogue and engagement”, the group confirmed in a statement on Tuesday (July 9), while the Ligue 2 side also released their own statement on the development.

John Henry is believed to have made the trip to France, according to local outlet France Bleu, alongside Julian Ward and a lawyer to meet Bordeaux owner and president Gerard Lopez.

The Direction Nationale du Controle de Gestion (DNCG, the body responsible for overseeing the finances of French football clubs) are seeking to relegate them further down the French footballing pyramid due to their finances.

Bordeaux claim they are appealing the decision in order to provide the necessary guarantees for financing for the upcoming 2024/25 campaign. A potential takeover by FSG would allow them to compete in the second tier next season.

The French side entered administration in 2021 when their American owner King Street could no longer support the club financially - they were rescued by Luxembourgish-Spanish businessman Lopez that June.

However, he couldn't save them from relegation - and they are yet to return to the French top flight after spending two seasons in the second division.
