The Block's Scott Cam recalls the heartwarming moment firefighters battling bushfires near his NSW holiday home were given a standing ovation by locals
Scott Cam is grateful that the bushfires on the NSW south coast have so far avoided his holiday home in Narrawallee.
And on Thursday, The Block host spoke about the amazing community spirit he had observed in the area surrounding Mollymook over the New Year's period.
Speaking to Channel Nine's Today show from his coastal property, Scott said: 'I witnessed something that was so emotional.'

Scott recalled a heartwarming moment when locals seeking supplies in Milton had shown their respect to a brigade of firefighters driving through their town.
'All the cars were in gridlock and everybody was out in the street and we were trying to get some supplies because the power was out,' he said.
'And we were in torch light in the IGA, two at a time to just get a few items, and some firies went past and everybody gave them a standing ovation as they drove past.
'It was quite amazing.'

Scott had stayed behind to defend his Narrawallee holiday home over the New Year's period, preparing the building for the worst as his three children fled.
With the bushfire season far from over, Scott told Today hosts Karl Stefanovic and Allison Langdon he was staying vigilant because 'we're not out of the woods yet'.
'You have to just keep up to date with the apps that we have, and by speaking to local authorities and locals,' he said.

Speaking to 9Now on Tuesday, Scott said of his brush with disaster: 'We were ready to go and had an exit plan to get to Mollymook beach, but just luckily that didn't happen.
'The flames were on the other side of the Narrawallee inlet and they were about to jump, and the southerly turned them around.'
The Gold Logie-winning presenter had prepped the property by setting up sprinklers on the roofs and weighing them down to stay secure.
'I didn't really turn them on until Saturday afternoon when the southerly came, because we were waiting for embers to come at that point, so I only turned them on for a short time,' he added.
'They're still there now up on the roofs, ready to go and we have a generator set up for power and stuff like that.'
