Ebon Moss-Bachrach has revealed how the cast of The Bear began filming season four during production for season three. 

During an interview on the podcast Talk Easy with Sam Fragoso, Moss-Bachrach, 47, revealed how parts of season four ended up being shot after they realized just how long season three episodes had become. 

However, as the story was filmed in a nonlinear manner, it caused stress himself and co-stars Jeremy Allen White and Ayo Edebiri.

'When we went in to start season three, we weren’t going in to make season three and four,' he explained. 'But it swelled and some our episodes got quite big and over an hour.'

'Some of these episodes were splitting... I was like, you know what, we're going to actually turn this into two seasons and now we are going to be making 15 or 16 episodes instead of 10. But we’re gonna do it all at the same time.'

But the stars ended up being left in a 'constant state' of assessing where there characters were currently placed as the seasons were filmed nonsequentially. 

'I would come in at the beginning of the day and shoot a scene from late in season four and then shoot a scene from early season three and then shoot a scene late in season three,' Moss-Bachrach added. 'It took an enormous amount of war room like post-its.'

'Me, Ayo, and Jeremy, we're all in a constant state of rereading through the seasons and trying to remember where your person is at in this very kind of emotional rollercoaster of opening a rollercoaster,' he detailed. 

Despite Moss-Bachrach finding their efforts 'thrilling', it was also perplexing for him: 'It became a very thrilling slash confusing shoot,' he said. 

In another recent interview with Mr. Porter, Moss-Bachrach revealed the cast filmed 'about 18 episodes.' 

'We shot about 18 episodes, but everything shifts,' he recalled., 'In the past, what was one episode on the page has been split into two. I just lose myself in the messiness and chaos of it.

'I like getting taken by a wave that’s bigger than you thought it was, tumbled around and spit out the other end.

'It’s very chaotic. I love the big scenes. Scenes with lots of moving parts. People talking over each other.'

The Bear has won industry awards and critical plaudits yet still seems to fall just outside the mainstream. 

Starring alongside Jeremy Allen White's troubled but talented chef Carmen Berzatto as testy restaurant manager Richie Jerimovich, Moss-Bachrach has inevitably become a household name as a result of the show's increasing popularity. 

And as it enters its third season, Moss-Bachrach admits that even he has been gripped by Richie's transformation from unstable, Xanax popping adversary  to Berzatto's trusted friend and ally. 

Speaking to MR. PORTER, he said: 'He had this redemption and he seemed irredeemable. I think that’s why people are responding. I do feel I had a front-row seat watching this man [get] a second chance.'

The show's popularity was reflected during awards season, with The Bear claiming ten Emmys - among them Best Acting wins for co-stars White, Moss-Bachrach, and Ayo Edebiri. 

Reflecting on their return to set after such an unprecedented win, Moss-Bachrach admitted he felt under pressure to deliver bigger performances as they filmed each new episode back-to-back.

'When I showed up [on set] after, I was nervous,' he explained. 'It felt like there was now an expectation. An external pressure to deliver. I’m sure everyone felt that.' 

The actor also admitted his off-screen relationship with leading man White is far removed from their turbulent on-screen dynamic. 

'Humble is the wrong word,' he said of his co-star. '[He’s got an] inability to remove himself or rise above. He’s just a guy among people.'

The actor reflected on his role after trading his kitchen civvies for couture clothing from The Row, Auralee, SAINT LAURENT and Bottega Veneta while working with photographer Clément Pascal on a new shoot. 

The show, which is produced by FX, racked up more than 5.4 million worldwide views in its initial four days of streaming, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

It received strong feedback on social media following the season three launch and had its best numbers since its debut in 2022, when it began streaming on Hulu. 

The cast also includes Lionel Boyce, Liza Colón-Zayas, Abby Elliott, Edwin Lee Gibson, Matty Matheson, Corey Hendrix and Oliver Platt.

The 5.4 million total represents full showings of the 36-minute-long debut episode, which is titled Tomorrow, according to the outlet.

It marks a 24 percent spike since the show's June 2023 season two debut, which had around 4.35 million views.

The total represents a highwater mark for the show over a span of four days, as well as Hulu's most-ever for an FX season debut or scripted series, according to THR.

Hulu said that the show's ratings were the third-highest for an original season premiere.

Outside of the U.S, the series can be seen on the Disney+ streaming service.

The Bear has gained momentum over the past few years, as its second season was in the Nielsen Top 10 for a five-week span in June of 2023.
