Cat Deeley has detailed her debilitating battle with acne in her teens and 20s, which got so bad that she couldn't bear for anyone to see her without makeup on.

The This Morning host, 47, opened up about her struggle in her younger years as she and co-presenter Ben Shephard, 49, welcomed an adult acne sufferer on Tuesday's show.

Guest Lexy explained that her confidence had been 'destroyed' by the common skin condition.

As she shared further details, Cat confessed that she also struggled with acne herself when she was in her teens and 20s.

Admitting that she felt insecure and would get into work extra early so no one would see her without makeup on, Cat said: 'I had bad skin when I was a teenager, then it cleared up, and then in my 20's it was so strange it came back.

'I was working on TV shows at the time, and I used to get there before everybody else arrived in the morning because I didn't want anybody to see me without makeup on.'

Cat revealed that she used the medication Roaccutane to help treat her acne and started to see some improvement in the appearance of her skin.

She said: 'In the end, I ended up taking Roaccutane for it, and it helped it out.'

Ben also admitted he suffered from the common skin condition during his time at university and offered Lexy comfort by saying: 'We do know what it’s like.'

Roaccutane is used to treat severe forms of acne including nodular or conglobate acne, or acne that is at risk of causing permanent scarring.

Healthcare professional Dr George, described the medication as 'extreme' on the programme as he claimed it has some 'significant side effects'.

He said: 'I think it's a wonder drug, I really do, as your experience has shown. But it's got to be used carefully, it's got to be used properly - it's got some significant side effects and problems.'

He added: 'But 85 per cent of patients who had a course of Roaccutane never have another spot.'

He then looked towards Cat and said: 'As in your case you're left with a beautiful complexion, no more doctor's appointments, no more antibiotics, your skin is cured.'

However, Roaccutane is not easy to get hold of as Lexy admitted that she is currently on a two-year waiting list.

Cat recalled suffering a 'frightening' health scare during a live TV show as she spoke on This Morning in April.

The presenter was joined by her co-host Ben as they discussed a new 'miracle drug' to help combat migraine attacks.

Opening up about her struggles, Cat revealed she had her first experience while presenting So You Think You Can Dance and was forced to 'push through.'

She explained: 'Mine goes from the outside in, actually more kind of like tunnel vision!'

'I got my first migraine on live TV, it was actually really frightening as I didn't know what was happening to me and I'd never had one before.'

Cat continued: 'But now, I get them occasionally and I can see symptoms straight away. If I act straight away with something like migraine relief, it gets rid of it!'

Speaking to MailOnline in 2017, she added: 'That was the worst experience ever. I had no idea what was happening, which was the scariest part.'

'I got tunnel vision halfway through the show and my head felt like it was exploding. But what can you do?'

'You are live in front of millions. You push through on adrenalin and then collapse when the show is over.'
