Alan Shearer is convinced a rising star at Euro 2024 will become a 'really good striker' in the future, as well as tipping them for a future Premier League move.

Slovenia were beaten by Portugal on penalties in the last-16 after the minnows held Roberto Martinez's star studded team to a goalless draw.

Their resistance came to an end in the shootout after missing all three of their spot kicks.

Despite exiting the tournament, Shearer highlighted the performances of Slovenia forward Benjamin Sesko at Euro 2024.

The 21-year-old failed to score in four matches in Germany, but showed flashes of the ability that has led to him being linked with big-money moves.

Shearer, speaking on the Rest is Football podcast, highlighted Sesko's ability and tipped him for a future move to the Premier League.

'He was feeding off scraps a lot of the time but I think he will be a really really good striker, I've no doubt about that,' Shearer said.

'A lot of the big boys were after Sesko weren't they?

'He's signed a new deal with Leipzig, but I don't think it will be long before we see him in the Premier League.'

Sesko had signed a one-year contract extension ahead of Euro 2024, with his deal now running until 2029.

The 21-year-old had attracted strong interest from the Premier League clubs prior to signing his new deal.

Arsenal were believed to have been strongly interested in signing the forward, who scored 18 goals last season.

Chelsea were also credited with an interest in the Bundesliga star.

Gary Lineker agreed with Shearer's view of Sesko, but believes the forward made a mistake when presented with a chance by Portgual defender Pepe in extra time in the last-16.

'He made the one mistake there, when you're one on one with the goalkeeper what you've got to do is try and make the goalkeeper commit first and he most certainly didn't do that on that particular occasion,' Lineker said.

'But he's a young striker and I think he showed a lot of potential.'

Sesko was on the pitch for the penalty shoot-out but was not among Slovenia's three takers.

Slovenia saw their three penalties saved by Diogo Costa, whose heroics helped Portugal reach the last eight.
