Chelsea have reportedly seen a bid for one of their top summer targets knocked back.

After succeeding Mauricio Pochettino at Stamford Bridge, Enzo Maresca has wasted little time in looking to add to the squad that finished 6th in the Premier League last season.

Earlier this week the club completed the signing of Barcelona starlet Marc Guiu on a five-year deal after activating the forward's £5m release clause.

The Spain youth international joined defender Tosin Adarabioyo and Omari Kellyman as new arrivals at the west London club.

However, reports suggest that a move to sign one of the club's top offensive targets has been rejected.

According to The Sun, the Blues made a £42m bid for Atletico Madrid forward Samu Omorodion a 6ft 4ins Spain U21 international who only joined the club last summer.

Atletico are said to have slapped a £70m price tag on the 20-year-old, who spent last season on loan at La Liga side Alaves.

Omorodion began his career in Granada's youth setup and featured regularly for the club's B team before being handed his first first-team appearance.

At the start of last season, Omorodion started Granada's clash with Atletico, netting on his debut in the 3-1 defeat and sufficiently impressing Diego Simeone to such an extent that he signed him just one week later.

Omorodion was sent straight out on loan to Alaves and netted 8 goals in 34 top flight appearances, finishing as the club's top scorer.

The moves comes after the Blues are said to have ended their pursuit of Newcastle striker Alexander Isak

Chelsea's interest in Omorodion comes as the club continue to look for more attacking depth after ending their pursuit of Alexander Isak.

Conversations between the Blues and Newcastle are said to have taken place regarding a move for the Sweden international before reports suggested they pulled out after being unwilling to meet the Magpies valuation of over £100m.
