Why Nathan Buckley was sent straight back home from his radio job after turning up to work at 5am

  • Nathan Buckley was turned away from SEN HQ on Monday
  • Buckley rocked up at 5am for his breakfast show
  • However, he was told he was not required for the shift

Nathan Buckley was dismissed from SEN HQ on Monday morning after making a mistake most of us have been guilty of at some point.

Melbourne's sports fans have grown accustomed to waking up to the Collingwood legend's dulcet tones, with Buckley, 51, working the morning shift alongside Kane Cornes most weeks.

However, he was told to go home today after misreading the roster, with TV reporter Tom Morris instead scheduled to host alongside Cornes.

Morris and Cornes were willing to let the listeners in on the pre-show mishap when they hit the airwaves.

'I was looking forward to this morning and I turned up here earlier and I got told Nathan Buckley came as well,' Morris told listeners at the start of the show.

'Bucks came to the door and didn't read his schedule correct and he got sent away by (producer) Mitch.'

'It's amazing,' Cornes said.

'Mitch came in and said Bucks was here a bit earlier than what I was. You wouldn't believe it, Bucks rocked up at 5 o'clock and we had to turn him away. Think he was reasonably OK with that.'

An unsympathetic Morris said: 'He just needs to read his calendar.'

But Morris did provide valuable insight for the breakfast show, revealing that plans are afoot at Channel 7 to host a Sunday morning footy show from 2025.

'I don't know what time, I don't know who's going to be on it … my information is they'll have a couple of new shows next year,' Morris said.
