This weekend, Congress President Leendert Verbeek met with Ukrainian refugees in Romania, Mararmures region, a border region with Ukraine. He also visited a logistic centre supporting humanitarian aid to refugees as well as into Ukraine.

Verbeek visited Maramureș in his capacity as King’s Commissioner as part of an aid programme for Ukraine of his region and Maramures Region. He praised the efforts of Romanian local authorities and NGO’s to host and provide assistance to the refugees as well as the solidarity and support to Ukraine shown by other cities and regions across Europe. “Local and regional authorities of Europe stand united with Ukraine, its communities and its people,”

During a lunch with refugees and volunteers of the aid organisation he presented the Congress Bureau declaration on the one-year anniversary of Russia´s invasion of Ukraine.
