Role Value Proposition:
Compliance Risk Management ("CRM") delivers a compliance risk framework that enables the businesses and functions to comply with applicable internal and external rules and regulations and maintain risk levels within MetLife's risk appetite. CRM provides constructive challenge to the businesses and functions, partnering closely with them to implement strong processes and effective controls, and to foster and embed a culture of compliance. CRM is part of Global Risk Management (GRM).
The Senior Compliance Consultant, RIS Compliance will be an individual contributor providing compliance coverage to the RIS Business and Operations team. This individual will be part of a team that provides compliance coverage to the RIS lines of business and supporting operational functions, working closely with RIS team to implement risk-based controls and guidelines. This position will work closely and collaboratively across RIS to identify compliance risks, implement controls to effectively manage risk, and adapt to new and/or changing laws, rules, or regulations.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop strategic relationships with RIS Business and Operations management and associates and serve as trusted partner providing single point of contact for specific RIS businesses.
  • Actively participate in meetings with key partners to stay informed of new product ideas, business strategies and initiatives, and emerging risks allowing for proactive compliance support resulting from changes in business model, compliance or regulatory environment.
  • Stay abreast of changes in the regulatory environment and analyze the impact of regulatory changes; ensuring that the RIS businesses are educated appropriately and implement changes accordingly.
  • Advise on and provide credible challenge to RIS Business' compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and compliance policies.
  • Build and maintain relationships with other functions critical to oversight and assessment of RIS Business, including Global Operations Risk Management, Legal, Operational Risk Management, and Audit.
  • Work with management to ensure continued improvement in self-identification of issues, and appropriate escalation and monitoring processes to ensure timely and effective remediation to mitigate compliance risk.
  • Work closely with RIS Business and Operations to resolve policy/regulatory breaches and violations and ensure timely and accurate external reporting when required.
  • Conduct risk-based testing and monitoring activities of the control environment to effectively measure compliance risk, identify areas of improvement, and recommend control enhancements
  • Identify and communicate results of compliance risk assessments, compliance-identified issues, and control concerns to appropriate management within RIS Operations and the RIS Business teams.


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

  • 7+ years of Compliance, Audit or other relevant risk management experience in the insurance, pension, and/or retirement industry with a demonstrated record of achievement;
  • Knowledge of Life Insurance, COLI/BOLI, and/or Stable Value products is preferred;
  • Educational background - minimum bachelor's degree;
  • Excellent analytical and research skills. Ability to apply critical thinking is essential;
  • Ability to identify and assess risk and communicate results to management.
  • Ability to analyze risks and controls and determine when controls are not operating effectively;
  • Knowledge of rules and regulations applicable to MetLife business and operations, including state insurance laws, federal securities laws, and other applicable regulatory regimes.
  • Ability to create risk-based metrics to provide key risk indicators which drive testing and monitoring program;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to prepare and conduct presentations and communications with management;
  • Must be a dedicated, self-motivated individual with an ability to work independently and in a team environment;
  • Must be a results-oriented, performance-based individual contributor who will produce results based on stated goals and objectives


The salary range for applicants for this position is $81,500 - $137,400.
