Ingredients

750-ml bottles fruity red wine

1

/2 cup cream Sherry

1

/2 cup sugar

2

tablespoons loose chai tea

1

teaspoon caraway seeds

4

cinnamon sticks, plus more for garnish

4

star anise pods, plus more for garnish

orange slices

1

4" knob ginger, peeled and chopped

1

vanilla bean, split lengthwise, seeds scraped

orange twists, (for serving)

Preparation

  1. Combine wine, Sherry, sugar, chai tea, caraway seeds, 4 cinnamon sticks, 4 star anise pods, 2 orange slices, ginger and vanilla bean in a large pot. Bring to a simmer and reduce heat to low. Let steep for one hour. Strain and divide among mugs; garnish with cinnamon stick, star anise pod and orange twist.
