Mintzy Madison: Episode Two (2nd Grade)

So here's Episode Two (2nd Grade) of Mintzy Madison, in which Ben Mintz will attempt to go back through Grades 1-12 like Billy Madison did. Give it a watch, but I'll use this blog to address the elephant in the room that everyone is pointing out: he never passed 1st grade. We all saw it when he couldn't complete his ABCs Scavenger Hunt the Monday before break started.

Let me be very clear: that was never the plan. The plan was to give him so much time that he could do it twice, factoring in for his.....issues. But he failed miserably because he's actually dumber than I thought he was. And now we were in a pickle. Do we get all of the production people to redo another live stream of 1st grade?  We (Lucas from Jerry After Dark and myself, not Mintzy) met and decided that in order to keep the tests fun and not worry about him failing, we would be looking for a punishment for him to complete if he failed the test for the grade.

We crowdsourced some options, and since it wasn't predetermined ahead of time, we gave Mintzy the opportunity to complete an easy one for 1st grade to prove he knew his ABCs. He did a fun little interpretive dance to showcase his knowledge of the alphabet:

So yeah, we moved him on to 2nd Grade. Do I agree with it? No I don't. I hate it about our education system. We move kids that don't deserve it on, enabling them and creating dumb adults. But what are we going to do here? Make him retake 1st? If he's failing 1st he's failing 2nd, and 3rd, and 4th, and 5th, and 6th, and 7th, and 8th, and 9th, and 10th, and 11th, and 12th. Probably a few times each. Lucas and I thought the best plan would be to come out with a punishment before each test from now on instead of retaking each test. Were we wrong?
