SUMMER TEMPS: Highs to surge to 84 in NYC on Monday ahead of scattered storms

NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – Temperatures will surge into the mid-80s in New York City on Monday—a preview of the mild week ahead to kick off the month of May.

Monday's high will be 84 degrees in Midtown Manhattan under mostly sunny skies and somewhat humid conditions.

According to AccuWeather, the day's high is nearly 20 degrees warmer than the average for this time of year, when temps usually reach the mid-60s.

Anyone planning to head to the city's beaches should remember that lifeguards aren't on duty until Memorial Day weekend.

A late-day thunderstorm can't be ruled out, especially to the north and west of the city, and rain is also possible overnight.

Tuesday will be cloudy and cooler with a high of 68.

Showers in the area on Tuesday night may linger into early Wednesday, when it will otherwise be sunny with a high of 67.

Thursday and Friday will be dry with a mix of sun and clouds. Temps will be in the upper 60s to near 70 on both days.
