NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- The Nassau County legislature on Monday passed a bill that would ban transgender women from competing in female sports teams at county-run facilities.

It's now been sent to county executive Bruce Blakeman's desk for his signature, but a vocal proponent of the legislation, he's expected to eagerly sign it.

"I believe by injecting yourself in a bullying manner onto a women's team or girls' team or a league is unconstitutional," Blakeman, a Republican, said earlier this month, claiming the proposed bill isn't transphobic, but "pro-women" and "pro-girls."

He added, "If you are a girls' team or a women's team, and you identify yourself as that or you advertise yourself as that, you cannot have biological males playing in that competition at county facilities. Biological males competing against females is unfair because biological males are bigger, faster and stronger in most cases."

Blakeman issued a similar executive order earlier this year, but it was rejected by the New York Supreme Court, which said the legislature needed to be involved.

The New York Civil Liberties Union, which sued about the executive order, said it will take similar action over the proposed bill.
