3 arrested for shooting fireworks out of car sunroof on LI parkway

NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – Three people were arrested on Monday for shooting fireworks out of a car sunroof while driving on a Long Island parkway, according to the Nassau County Police Department.

The arrest was made at around 2 a.m. in Westbury when an officer driving northbound the Meadowbrook State Parkway saw a car shooting fireworks out of its sunroof.

The officer then pulled over the car at exit M2 and Frederick Taveras
Hernandez, 19, Justin Padilla, 18, and Fernando Aristides, 19, were placed into police custody without incident.

“For the safety and security of all residents and visitors, Nassau County Police will continue their zero-tolerance approach regarding the possession and illegal use of fireworks,” a police report about the incident read.

All three were charged with reckless endangerment and
unlawfully possessing fireworks. Hernandez was also issued numerous
traffic summons.
