NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A man was shot at a local New Jersey restaurant on Monday, and another was injured, police believe, while he was trying to flee from the scene.

Newark police responded to a shooting at around 3 a.m. on 700 block of Sanford Avenue in Newark.

Upon arrival, they found a man with a gunshot wound, according to Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé.

The victim was taken to University Hospital and is in stable condition, police said.

Officers also found a car at the scene that had crashed and was lying on its side.

Inside the crashed car were two men, whom authorities believe had been fleeing the shooting at the restaurant.

Newark firefighters helped one man out of the car, and he was transported to University Hospital for treatment.  He is also in stable condition, according to police.

It was unclear whether the crash was directly related to the shooting incident.

Due to the car crash, a light pole and transformer were knocked down, resulting in a power outage at Abinger Place from Silver Street to South Orange Avenue.

PSEG was notified.
