Violent robbery caught on video in NYC subway station

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — Police are looking for a man wanted in connection with a violent robbery that was caught on camera in a Manhattan subway station over the weekend.

The incident occurred just before 6 p.m. Sunday inside the 14th Street and 1st Avenue train subway station in the East Village.

Surveillance video shows the 23-year-old victim looking down at her phone as she was leaving the station when a man suddenly runs up behind her and punches her in the head before snatching her backpack and running off.

The bag contained an Apple MacBook along with debit and credit cards.

The victim sustained swelling to her head, but refused medical attention at the scene.

The suspect is described as a man in his 30s, 5'5" tall, weighing 200 pounds, with a light complexion, medium build and facial hair. He was last seen wearing a black winter hat, a light colored scarf around his neck, a red and black jacket, a red, white and blue shirt, blue shorts with white stripes and blue sandals. He was carrying a large blue bag.
