Can the former child star of a hit 90s sitcom become one of California’s newest political stars?
With Rep. Adam Schiff having already announced his candidacy for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by 89-year-old retiring Sen. Dianne Feinstein, Ben Savage will try to parlay his TV fame into an electoral win in California’s District 30 and a spot in the U.S. House of Representatives.
“I’m running for Congress because it’s time to restore faith in government by offering reasonable, innovative and compassionate solutions to our country's most pressing issues,” Savage announced on Instagram. “And it's time for new and passionate leaders who can help move our country forward. Leaders who want to see the government operating at maximum capacity, unhindered by political divisions and special interests.”
The 42-year-old actor’s platform includes a variety of progressive touchstones, according to his website, including creating more affordable housing, bringing an end to gun violence and expanding the rights of unions.

The campaign will be Savage’s second attempt at winning voter support. He previously mounted a bid for a seat on the West Hollywood City Council in 2022 but lost that election.
Savage starred in "Boy Meets World" for seven seasons. The ABC sitcom was recently rebooted with Savage reprising the role of Cory Matthews for a series that focused on the character’s daughter called "Girl Meets World."
