Christie Brinkley has revealed she is recovering from a battle with skin cancer.

The supermodel had basal cell carcinoma removed for her face, above her eye, according to a post on her Instagram account.

Brinkley shared three images including one of the bandaged wound, the open wound itself after removal, and then a picture of her stitches.

"The good news for me is we caught the basal cell Carcinoma early. And I had great Doctors that removed the cancer and stitched me up to perfection like an haute couture Dior," she began the caption to the post.

She continued asking those reading to do regular skin checks and take protective measures against skin cancer, including using sunscreen, wearing sleeves, and also wide brim hats.

"…doing regular body check ups… that is a MUST!" she wrote.

Brinkley also explained how her cancer was discovered at a doctor's visit for her daughter.

"The Doctor was looking at each freckle with a magnifying glass. It wasn’t my appointment so I wasn’t going to say anything but at the VERY end I asked if he could just look at a little tiny dot I could feel as I applied my foundation. He took a look and knew immediately it needed a biopsy! He did it then and there!" she wrote.

Brinkley finished the post thanking her doctors as well as the Laser & Skin Surgery Center of New York.
