NOTE: video is with the fan unplugged, to demonstrate switch movement.Runs quietly, seems to move air well. I like that the top of the fan has a "slot" for the window to slide into, holding it in place. The switch feels very cheap. It doesn't snap into position, you can end up between speeds. It works, but feels crappy. Also the paint is smeared on the lettering.The two fans go the same direction, you can't control them independently, also there is no remote.

I have purchased two of these. They fit into my windows without issue, expanding nearly all the way to do so, but there was still a few more clicks before full extension. They are quiet and pulls in the cool evening and night air, which allowed me to keep the A/C off until the devil's heat hit in the summer.

I ended up getting two separate of this fan, because the first one died just before the return window closed. So keep that in mind! The second fan has had no issues but like many Amazon Basics items the quality control could be a lot better. Overall, this fan has dramatically changed my quality of life in a house with no air conditioning over the hot California summer. I highly recommend, as long as you get a unit that does work.

First the good: these window fans are affordable, and the version with remotes is convenient and easy to use. They're well built and lightweight. My daughter knocked one of the "manual versions" of these out the second story window and it still worked! They're aesthetically pleasing. And the reversible fan direction allows you to pull cool air in when the sun is on the other side of the building, and pull hot air out when the sun is facing the unit's window. This makes these fans very versatile.

Now the bad: these fans are relatively weak and the noise level is fairly high (considering their power level). So, when summer gets in full swing, these struggle to cool the house well. Likewise, the privacy wings that extend out from the sides seem to retract a little after you extend them out, leaving some gap. This seems like it would be a relatively simple design-fix, so I don't know why this problem exists.

Overall, these are better fans than others of similar price range. But, if you're looking for stronger, quieter fans, you'll have to pay more to get a better fan.

I bought 2 of these fans for in my sons' rooms for the time of year when its nice and cool outside, but the house is hot and you want that cool air inside. I have a box fan in a kitchen window pulling outward, then I put these fans in our bedrooms pulling air in from outside and it works great to cool the house down and make the bedrooms comfortable. I was so impressed with this fan when I first put it in my sons window I almost wanted to buy another to replace the old one my husband and I have in our room! I would definitely recommend this fan!

2nd update after trying to get replacement when fan stopped working within 8 months (lowered to 1 star):
Tried to initiate return/replace on website an it would not give me any option, only "self-help troubleshooting". After several attempts, finally connected wth an agent on Online Chat. Agent sent me a YouTube Video on how to lubricate the bearings myself which involves dismantling the fan and removing the motor! Finally determined I needed to call the Amazon Warranty number which is really just Amazon customer service. That agent said my warranty doesn't cover replacement, but I can return for a refund. I told him I need it replaced so the original Extended Warrant I purchased would apply to the replacement. He said he wasn't able to do that and I can attempt to call Assurion and see if they will refund the extended warranty cost.
Then while processing the return, The amount they are going to refund me is $10 LESS than I paid. I asked why and he said he doesn't know. He said I have to wait, return the item, and after the refund is processed I can call back again and see why the refund amount is lower and TRY to get the full amount refunded. I'm so upset at what I have had to go through to get a replacement for an item that I thought was insured for 3 full years- because it is an AMAZON Basics product the extended warranty compamy can't help because it is supposedly still under the Amazon warranty for the first year. But since the won't process a replacement the extended warranty I paid for is invalid, I'll have to order a new fan and purchase another extended warranty for that. Trust me, the new fan I order will NOT be an Amazon Basics product, nor wll I trust any Amazon Basics product warranty again.

Update after 6 months (lowered to 3 stars): just stopped turning on. Went to request replacement and it suggested replacing a tiny fuse in the plug, so after ordering fuses and waiting, I replaced and it still doesn't work.
I purchased a 3 year warranty and would highly recommend anyone do this, it is minimal and ensures you get your money's worth. I still would purchase this fan, it is a godsend helping me sleep at night by pulling in the cool air.

Initial Revew- was 5 stars. I really love the addition of this fan to my bedroom window. I live upstairs so my apartment gets very warm in the afternoon and evenings, and I need it cool to sleep well. This does a great job of bringing the cool air in and cooling down my room. I didn't need a fancy one with a remote control, but wanted the dual fan feature where one can can be set to reverse, to better circulate the air and cool off better.
The noise at higher levels is noticeable but not enough to really bother me, it's just white noise - but I do need to raise the volume of my tv when it's on at night.
My windows are huge and open vertically, so it was important to find a fan that works well "sideways", and this does that.
I would have given 5 stars, but the extender doesn't stay open all the way, with one side higher than the other. This really doesn't make a difference to me since it still wouldn't fit the entire opening, but it might matter to some.
It comes fully assembled, and easily fits my vertical window sideways in front of the screen, I just slide the window flush with the "bottom" to hold it snugly in place.
This is lightweight plastic and the whole unit is light, but I do buy the extended warranty on all my fans just I case, as I've had some broken by electric surges in my apartment.
I do need to figure out the best method to clean it, I try to get fans that can be easily taken apart for a thorough washing but I haven't tried with this.

I bought this fan for my adult son because old window fan was starting to fail. He is thrilled with this new fan. He said the low on this one is equal to the high setting on his old fan. Wow! He thinks the high setting on this fan is better than a box fan that he also owns. He is very, very happy with this fan. But he couldn't figure out how to turn it on at first. He had to read the manual to learn it has a thermostat and how to set it so that the fan would come on. I had forgotten to warn him so he would know, lol! But it's all good now. Oh, he said one of the expanders wouldn't stay put but he figured he that wasn't important since his window is such that he doesn't need it.
