Ever since news of the courtship between Prince Harry and American actress and activist Meghan Markle hit the internet, everyone from the tabloids to the New York Times have been wondering if there were royal wedding bells in the future. Per an announcement from the palace, it's official: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are engaged.

This morning Clarence House announced on Twitter (is it 2017 or what?) that the Prince, who's fifth in line to the crown, and Ms. Markle are engaged and will marry sometime in the spring of 2018. "Further details about the wedding day will be announced in due course," read the statement.

Prince Harry and Ms. Markle, who recently announced she'd be leaving Suits, will live in Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace.

The royal family has come a long way since the more tight lipped era of Princess Diana (see: their use of Twitter) but if you were hoping for juicy details about the proposal, things haven't changed quite that much. According to the announcement, the couple got engaged earlier this month in London after the Prince sought the permission of Ms. Markle's parents (aww). Then the couple informed the royal family and, most importantly, Her Majesty the Queen.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (a.k.a. the coolest brother and sister-in-law ever) have already shared their excitement at the news. "We are very excited for Harry and Meghan. It has been wonderful getting to know Meghan and to see how happy she and Harry are together," they said via a statement from Kensington Palace on Twitter.

The couple made their first official appearance together in September, though they've been dating over a year. By royal standards, they've been fairly vocal about their relationship in the media. Last year, Prince Harry publicly took a stand on the alleged racist and sexist undertones (Markle is mixed race) in the obsessive coverage. "This is not a game — it is her life and his," read the statement by Prince Harry's communications secretary.

Not since the world was first introduced to the future Duchess of Cambridge have we been so excited about a wedding. See the full announcement — which already has over 21,000 retweets and almost 50,000 likes — below.

We just have one question for the palace: What kind of nail art will Meghan be rocking to show off her new ring?
