Alabama’s only Democrat in Congress says she remains strong in her support for President Joe Biden, even as some of her colleague call for him to resign after a poor debate performance.

U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell said her support for Biden as presidential candidate with Vice President Kamala Harris as his running mate remains rock solid.

“I have seen it myself,” she posted on the social media site X.

“Joe Biden tells the truth. He cares about us and our future as a nation. He has delivered real progress for the American people and he will fight to protect our democracy and our freedom to vote. My support for the Biden-Harris ticket is rock solid.”

The president has struggled in the polls since his debate with former President Donald Trump.

Pollsters have noted the “political environment has severely degraded for Democrats” since the Biden debate performance at the end of June. A Cygnal poll of likely general election voters showed in a head-to-head matchup, Trump was the choice of 48% compared to 43% for Biden.

Biden has said he has no plans to withdraw.

However, Republican U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville said Sunday that he believed “Kamala Harris will probably be the candidate running against Donald Trump. That will be interesting.”
