Internship in Journalism and Fact-Checking

 

AFP (Agence France-Presse) in Rio de Janeiro is looking for a student in journalism interested in getting hands-on experience in the areas of journalism and fact-checking. The successful candidate will learn the agency’s drafting principles and techniques to verify veracity information on social media.

 

According to AFP efforts to broaden the diversity of its workforce around the world, and in a step of support to the professional insertion of the students from under-represented communities, we propose an internship at AFP LATAM aimed at the detection of future journalistic talents in the public universities of Rio.

Due consideration will be given to applicants identifying to underrepresented and underprivileged groups.  

This initiative counts with the support of three Brazilian universities: UFRJ, UERJ and UFF

Features: 

  • 6-months internship (from 1 May to 1 November 2024) in AFP office in Rio de Janeiro 
  • 6 hours daily (11 am – 5 pm) from Monday to Friday 
  • Basic monthly payment (BRL 1.412) 
  • Meal (BRL 660) and transport (BRL 308) assistance  

Requirements:  

  • Be enrolled in a journalism degree at a public university in Rio 
  • Be available at the above-mentioned dates 
  • Have a good level of English or Spanish (without the requirement of fluency in any of the two languages)  
  • Have solid knowledge of social media and good drafting skills  

The selection process:

  • Interviews in AFP Rio de Janeiro in the third week of April
