CARTERET COUNTY - A Carteret County grand jury has indicted a woman and her mother in the 2012 death of an elderly relative.

District Attorney Scott Thomas said Rhonda Hagan was indicted on Jan. 13 with murder, second-degree arson, first-degree kidnapping, larceny, and failure to report a death. Hagan's mother, Phyllis Williams, was indicted on charges of accessory after the fact of murder, accessory after the fact of second-degree arson, failure to report a death, and obstruction of justice.

According to deputies, Hagan murdered her 90-year-old great aunt, Goldie Hall, in September 2012 after a dispute over money.

Hagan then allegedly burned the victim's home near Newport. Hall's body was found a week later in a wooded area behind the Newport Flea Mall.

Thomas said the suspects are scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 17.
