X lawyers informed Brazil’s Supreme Court on Monday that the social media company formerly known as Twitter will fully comply with the country’s judicial decisions.

The statement comes amid threats from the platform’s owner, Elon Musk, to disobey the decisions of Justice Alexandre de Moraes of the Supreme Court, who has ordered the removal of profiles sharing false information.

In a petition addressed to the Supreme Court, X stated that its headquarters received a notification from the United States House of Representatives Committee on the Judiciary on Friday, requesting the removal of content and the blocking of platform accounts, complying with the orders issued by Mr. Moraes.

According to the company, it is “subject to the legal obligation to display the documents requested by judicial, legislative, and executive bodies, following the law and precedents of that country,” and therefore complied with the decisions.

Nevertheless, the lawyers said, “it was noted to the American authority that the requested documents are confidential and subject to judicial secrecy.” Therefore, “it requested that the American authority maintain and respect the confidentiality and secrecy of the produced documents.”
