Raze // The Color of the Town Music Video was released on June 18th, 2021, as a part of the Year One celebrations. Created by the Riot Brazil team, this music video features an original remix of the song "O Canto da Cidade", sung by Daniela Mercury.

Synopsis[]

The music video depicts Raze's wide range of abilities and agility in the heat of the battlefield. Although the majority of the music video is dedicated to showcasing Raze's abilities through in-game footage, it also showcases interesting lore and hints at mysteries that are yet to be discovered.

Plot[]

The Color of the Town - Killjoy

Raze entering her workshop

The music video begins with a shot of the clear blue skies accompanied by the sing-song of the church bells. Soon after, we see Raze walking up to a shop that has its metal curtains closed. This shop is evident to belong to Raze from the "RAZE" graffiti in big, bold letters adorning the curtain. After entering her workshop, She makes a promise to fix her visibly broken Boombot, saying "É por isso que eu vou te botar no jeito hoje, viu Binho." (I'm going to fix you up today, Beebee.) After cooing at her bot's pitiful state, saying "Ô dó! Já passou da hora, né pai?" (Poor guy! Long time coming, huh, buddy?), Raze stretches, sets up a joyful tone to play in the background, and gets to work saying "Vamo lá."

The Color of the Town - Broken Boombot

Unfortunately, after receiving a notification from Breach needing help at B site on Split, Raze can't keep her promise to fix her Boombot, apologizing to her beloved bot with "É Binho... hoje só amanhã." (My bad, Beebee... Rain check?). After gearing up and equipping her weapons, Raze sets out for adventure, saying "É hora do reggae!" /It's time for the showdown!)

The Color of the Town - Omega Boombot

At the very end of the music video, we see a shot of Raze's abandoned workshop again, her Boombot visibly broken and busted. Suddenly, with an ominous tune playing in the background, we see a small, blue portal opening beside Raze's table inside the workshop, and soon after, next to Raze's broken Boombot, an intact Boombot enters the shot. The music video ends with the intact Boombot visibly glitching as it stands still.

Lore[]

Boombot[]

A bot that's a part of Raze's in-game kit, Boombot appears in multiple scenes throughout the music video. The most important appearance of the Boombot takes place at the very end of the video, where an intact Boombot appears on Raze's table next to her broken one. From the blue protal the bot came from to the glowing outline of the bot, it's assumed that this is Boombot is one that belongs to Omega Raze. In the social media takeover that released a year after the music video, this bot is still seen to be hanging around at Raze's workshop, undiscovered.[1]

Culture[]

From TV antennas to pineapple-shaped jars, this music video features carefully-chosen intricate details of the Brazilian culture, some of which represent Raze on a deeper level.

Boitatá Spray[]

The Color of the Town - Boitata Spray

Boitatá Spray

Boitatá[2] is a flaming serpent from Brazilian mythology, famous for protecting the forests from loggers who try to demolish the forest by scaring them away. This mythological creature's inclusion in the cinematic is no coincidence, as the flaming serpent is an obvious representation of Raze, who has taken immense measures to fend her city from Kingdom's domination.

Carranca[]

An important part of Brazilian culture, Carranca is a type of figurehead attached to river craft that is believed to have the power to protect the boat from the river's evil spirits.

Vira-lata caramelo[]

Vira-lata caramelo[3] is a dog breed that's seen quite commonly in Brazil. In the official "easter eggs" video[4], these dogs are described as "the sacred guardians of Brazilian streets". Once again, through the theme of "guarding", we recognize the similarities between Raze and an important part of Brazilian culture.

Atabaque[]

Atabaque[5] is a tall, wooden, Afro-Brazilian hand drum. The inclusion of this in Raze's workshop showcases her love for the music of her culture.

Plano Inclinado Gonçalves[]

The Color of the Town - Funicular

Plano Inclinado Gonçalves is a type of funicular located in the Historic Center of Salvador, in the Brazilian state of Bahia. It consists of an inclined plane, one of the oldest in the city, behind the Basilica da Sé Cathedral, and connects the neighborhood of Comércio to Pelourinho.[6]

Other Cultural Details[]

Other than these cultural details, the TV antennas on rooftops, Jarra de Abacaxi and Filtro de Agua de Barro[7] in Raze's workshop represent the everyday items of Brazilian culture. There's also an arcade game visible in Raze's workshop by the name of "Briga de Rua 2" that pays homage to a famous fighting game.

Nanobomb[]

The romantic relationship between Raze and Killjoy had been hinted at for a significant amount of time before its confirmation in the social media takeover on December 11, 2022[8]. As this music video released long before this relationship was confirmed, we can see multiple hints at Raze and Killjoy's relationship. The most major hint is the "Namoradeira Killjoy" statue that appears in the first scene of the music video. Translating to "sweetheart" in Portuguese, this statue represents a person in love who's staring off into the distance, hopelessly waiting for their lover to pass them by.

Other hints at Killjoy's relationship with Raze include Killjoy's shoes tied to the overhead cables in the street and a "Boneca" of Killjoy situated on Raze's table.

Easter Eggs[]

Maps[]

Although they're easy to miss, there are multiple references made to the in-game maps in the music video. The first easter egg is visible in the very first scene of the music video— in the distance, KNG Meridian, a stranded shipping vessel that's visible in A site of the map Breeze can be seen. Other references to maps include a map of Bind in Raze's workshop and the notification for duty Raze receives through her phone, which shows B site on Split.

Sprays[]

In the colorful music video, we can see "Lobster? Spray" and "Raze Spray" making individual appearances.

Riot[]

Before Raze enters the scene, a Restaurant by the name "Restaurante Rito Gomes" is visible In the first shot of the streets. In another scene, posters celebrating Year One of VALORANT can be seen adorning the walls of the streets.
