Waltham Petcare Science Institute is committed to driving transformative pet health innovation. The MARS PETCARE BIOBANK™ is a comprehensive real-world study, which aims to recruit 20,000 pets (10,000 dogs and 10,000 cats) across the United States over 10 years. The biobank study will generate longitudinal physiological data from the samples collected and connected to other metadata to gain insights that will help us to understand the differences between pets that are healthy as they age and pets that develop diseases. By enrolling their pets in the study, pet owners will help enable new scientific discoveries to improve pet health for future generations. Thanks to the New York Times for an interesting read on the emerging interest in this field. Waltham Petcare Science Institute is proud to be involved in this first-of-its-kind pilot programme to prevent harmful greenhouse gases from entering the atmosphere 👇 https://lnkd.in/gmTVzmPM
Did you know roughly 95% of the volatile anesthetic agent delivered to a patient during a typical anesthetic procedure is exhaled? We’re partnering with SageTech Veterinary on a first-of-its-kind pilot program in veterinary medicine to capture anesthetic gas and prevent harmful greenhouse gases from entering the atmosphere. Starting with select Linnaeus clinics and the Waltham Petcare Science Institute, we’re working to reduce our climate change impacts and contribute to a better future for the planet—and the people and pets who depend on it. A new HAI study builds on our understanding of the physiological benefits of child-dog relationships. Previous research shows that kids often turn to pets for support when stressed. Yet, until now, little was known about the mutual benefits of relaxed interactions. This latest study measures cortisol in children and dogs after spending quality time together. Explore a recent study, led by Dr Corrin Wallis, Senior Research Scientist at Mars Petcare, highlighting the importance of regular oral examinations for extra-small dogs. The team analysed nearly 3 million dogs from Banfield Pet Hospital's across the US, and found that around 210,000 had PDT (persistent deciduous teeth). Interestingly the study highlighted that PDT was more prevalent in the extra-small breeds, including Yorkshire Terrier, Maltese and Toy Poodle. The study and research findings has also covered across the media, including New Scientist, Daily Mail and MSN. Discover more about the study 👉 https://lnkd.in/ePjzRXC7 Our support for this study reflects our continued commitment to investing in science to build A BETTER WORLD FOR PETS™ and the understanding of PDT and canine oral health research.
