The World Leader in Friction Welding Development for 60+ years. Inventors of Friction Stir Welding (FSW) and Coreflow™.
About us
We help companies all around the world develop rapid, high-quality, low-cost manufacturing solutions using friction processes. TWI has been at the forefront of developing friction welding for over 60 years, playing a key role in advancing technologies including Rotary Friction Welding (RFW) and Linear Friction Welding (LFW) for mass production in key industries. We are now exploring how these technologies can be utilised for near-net-shape manufacture and joining of dissimilar combinations, which are impossible with other methods. TWI invented Friction Stir Welding (FSW) in 1991, enabling it to become a key joining technique in major industry sectors such as space, rail, automotive, aerospace, nuclear, and defence. We continue to push the boundaries of this technology, enabling even more applications to take advantage of its process benefits. The latest developments at TWI, such as Coreflow™, have the potential to once again change the manufacture route of products around the world. We are keen to hear how we can assist you in solving the latest challenges.
