  • Two years ago, Lilly convened a project looking at the barriers to equal care faced by Black and South Asian people living with diabetes. We worked with an expert steering group of clinicians, community champions, and people living with diabetes to develop targeted recommendations for change, which we published as a ‘Charter for Change’ report. We were delighted to reconvene the steering group recently to discuss the report's impact, actions taken since its publication, and the work that remains to be done. Thank you to the steering group for your valuable contributions. We look forward to continuing our work to tackle inequalities in diabetes care. • We welcome BritishAmerican Business (BAB)’s new report, looking at the state of the commercial environment for life sciences in the UK. The report highlights the need for ongoing government intervention to ensure patients are getting access to innovative medicines. We support the recommendation to fully implement the O’Shaughnessy Review to improve the clinical trial ecosystem in the UK. And it’s clear that strong collaboration between government and industry is crucial to driving investment and restoring the UK as a top destination for innovation and growth. • At Lilly, we are committed to building a workplace where every individual feels they belong. By keeping diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) at the forefront of everything we do, we support employees to be the best they can be and encourage them to celebrate their diverse views and ideas. Our DEI Champions bring together colleagues from many different parts of the business who share a passion for diversity and inclusion. Alongside our employee resource groups, they provide opportunities to learn about the many cultures that make up Lilly. Recently, our DEI champions invited Dr Alison Berner, Medical Oncologist and Specialty Doctor in Adult Gender Identity Medicine, to speak about her work around considerations in cancer care for LGBTQ+ patients. Alison discussed the importance of understanding sexual orientation and gender identity in healthcare and the limitations in recording and tracking of data in this area. She shared her experience in providing advice and assessments for gender diverse patients with active cancer or genetic cancer predisposition, as well as the wider medical community’s work on research projects aimed at improving cancer care for LGBTQ+ populations.
