#SouthAsia is the focus of many of the case studies in the BEI Education Report and we are delighted to start to share those case studies over the next week. These showcase the work delivered by BEI members and local partners in South Asia including in #Bangladesh, #Nepal, and #India. The real-life case studies highlight the impact of partnerships and offer best practice examples of how to tackle key issues in a range of different contexts. We are delighted to share the next case study from our Education Report, from the British Council. The British Council delivered the EU-funded (€14.1M) #TVET Practical Partnership programme, #Dakchyata from 2017-2022 in Nepal. The programme aimed to improve government systems in support of TVET reform. The British Council supports peace and prosperity by building connections, understanding and trust between people in the UK and other countries, through education, arts and culture, and the English language. The British Council works with a diverse set of international actors across the globe, including corporations, #governments and #multilaterals, trusts and foundations. 🌍 New study release: Widening participation in marginalised communities We are thrilled to share the insights from our study, focusing on how young people aged 13-15 from marginalised communities in #Bangladesh, #Nepal, #Senegal, and #Sudan are accessing technology and learning English. This research is crucial for understanding and addressing the barriers to equitable education and skill development in under-resourced regions. 🔹 #English Language: The study highlights the critical role of English in education and employment. It is seen as a gateway to better job opportunities and global connectivity. However, limited English proficiency can restrict the effective use of technology, creating a barrier that needs to be addressed. 🔹 #Technology: Students view technology positively, seeing it as a powerful tool for learning and job searching. Despite challenges like power outages, the COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the use of mobile phones for educational purposes. Access to devices varies significantly, with some students borrowing from family members or friends to support their education. 🔹 #Gender: Gender differences significantly impact access to technology. Girls often face stricter household rules and more monitoring of their technology use. Despite these challenges, girls show a keen interest in learning English, driven by ambitious future goals, and are often more focused on research and content sharing compared to boys. The findings of this study underscore the interconnectedness of technology and English learning. To promote #InclusiveEducation and skill development, it is essential to ensure equal access to both technology and English learning opportunities, regardless of background or gender. #Decentwork for #refugees and #displacedpeople is super important. If refugees work, they can support themselves and their families and contribute to the wider community. BUT things like legislation, context, education and qualifications and a host of other things make it really challenging to provide. One possible solution to this problem is remote work, using technology to allow refugees to be in one place and work (and be paid) in another. Though its also difficult a number of innovative, agile organisations are finding ways to do this, and in #refugeeweek, as part of the amazing #migrationsummit they came together to talk about it for 90 minutes. Their insight is absolute 100 carat gold, from connectivity, to payment and recruitment, these people are building best practice in an area which could be - hopefully WILL be - transformative. Listen and find out all about it, there's a link to the recording in the comments. 🔍 Our study in Uruguay reveals that learners in remote English classes perform just as well as those in traditional face-to-face settings. This success was a highlight of our project, Ceibal en Inglés, where learners were taught via video conferencing. The lesson plans featured specially designed activities such as games, songs, videos, and digital materials to engage learners. 📝Access our report below to discover the impact of Ceibal en Inglés: https://lnkd.in/dfEgQM-5 British Council The World Bank Graham Stanley #CeibalenIngles #VideoConferencing #EducationResearch

‘Knowledge is power. When you know, when you learn, when you have better control of the classroom, you perform better,’ says Aurora Reyes Gómez, a public school teacher in Chiapas, Mexico, for whom the British Council’s Low-Tech CPD Chiapas programme has been a game-changer. Chiapas has a large number of rural and relatively isolated schools. Our Low-Tech CPD Chiapas programme, created in partnership with the Secretariat of Education of the State of Chiapas, has benefitted more than 356 teachers, helping them find innovative strategies for teaching effectively with limited resources.
