Transport Planner

Overview

With focus on increasing customer satisfaction and optimising its resources, Metsä Wood UK has embarked on a wide range of initiatives and investments which include transforming its ERP & supply chain planning tools, standardising ways of working across its business areas and deeper collaboration with its stakeholders to increase product visibility and service.

As part of this initiative a vacancy has arisen to directly collaborate with internal stakeholders as well as high-profile customers and suppliers of service.


What do you get to do?

  • Daily plan and manage customer deliveries and collections in line with customer KPIs
  • Ensure vehicle utilization is maximised where possible, working with Customer Service and Operations teams to improve load fill
  • Report any stock shortage through to order desk team prior to despatch
  • Book transport requirement with nominated haulage company’s ensuring best cost / m3 is achieved
  • Monitor haulier performance against agreed booked slots reporting short falls to Site / Transport Manager
  • Monitor any additional haulage costs (e.g. demurrage / 2nd day charges) and challenge where possible
  • Support Distribution picking and loading teams with work balancing where possible
  • Support site / transport manager with delivery performance reviews
  • Address any problems or complaints that may arise quickly and amicably

What are we looking for?

  • Numerate and analytical, comfortable with intermediate/advanced XLS.
  • Effective communicator with ability to prioritise. Strong organisational skills.
  • Comfortable within fast-paced operations; effective problem solving skills.
  • Growth & continuous improvement mindset.
  • Preferred experience of SAP ERP and related transport planning software.
  • National Logistics / Transport qualification (e.g. Transport Manager CPC) - preferred
  • 2 years+ transport planning experience
  • IT skills – MS Office including
