Let’s talk meetings. They play an important role in organisations, allowing for collaboration, decision making, problem solving, conflict resolution and so much more. But did you know employees spend an average of 31 hours per month in unproductive meetings? That’s 31 hours too many! One of the many benefits of working at UBT is having access to regular Wellness Workshops. Our latest workshop was on Effective Meetings, where Tom Teelow from The Workshop Lab presented on how to make our meetings as effective as possible. Thanks to Tom and The Workshop Lab, here are six fundamentals of effective meetings: 1.     Have Necessary Meetings Only To meet or not to meet… It may be best not to hold a meeting if you don’t have time to adequately prepare for it or if another communication channel would serve the purpose just as well. 2.     Set the Meeting Objectives Start with the end in mind and explicitly state the objectives. Is the purpose of the meeting clear to everyone? 3.     Determine the Right Participants and Assign Roles Who is who? Invite the right participants and consider giving them an active role to play. 4.     Develop the Agenda Agendas are the structure behind every successful meeting. 5.     Promote Facilitation and Participation Give every voice the opportunity to be heard. 6.     Take Minutes and Assign Action Items With every topic check whether action is necessary and identify it. What do you do to ensure your meetings are as effective as possible? Would you add anything to this list? Let us know in the comments below.

The question is sometimes asked – are leaders born or made? Here at UBT, we believe every person has elements of leadership potential. The ability to influence a situation or to even take responsibility for an outcome. So, the bigger question is how leaders are made. Here are 7 thoughts one of our UBT leadership team shared this month: 1. Seek feedback actively: The ability to listen & accept feedback is critical. I don’t think we ever get beyond this. 2. Learn the art of asking questions: Listen & learn the power of asking questions versus making statements. 3. Take a genuine interest in others: Take an interest in people, ask for and give meaningful feedback and share knowledge. 4. Maintain an open mind: Be broad-minded and never assume. 5. Surround yourself with challengers: Keep good company, look for people who will challenge and stretch you. Build your network. 6. Excellence is the standard: Learn to do things to the best of your ability. Don’t fall into the trap of perfectionism but never accept a lower standard than best practice. 7. Develop emotional intelligence: Grasp emotional intelligence – understand your emotions and learn to manage them. And most of all, embrace the making process. It’s the ongoing journey of self-development that will enable you to be the leader you were born to be. Will each person’s leadership potential be realized? This should be a key concern for current business leaders. Interested in joining a team where you can grow your leadership skills? Find out more about us here: https://lnkd.in/gAn3RqF7

If we asked you to think back to an experience, you had with a person or company that truly made you feel valued – where would your thoughts go? 💭 Piers from the UK shared his real-life experience. “A few years ago, I was conducting a site survey at a high-end hotel. On one occasion, a hotel concierge greeted me by name as I entered. The staff had received my information in advance from Head Office and had used this information to make every visitor feel valued. Treating everyone with equal respect from customer to supplier. This personalised experience left a lasting impression.” Our Customer First mantra here at UBT, commits us to knowing how to offer a truly world-class experience. We believe the 🗝️ lies in being able to personalise the experience, so our customers feel that they have been put first. #customerfirst #ubt

It’s global step challenge time. This year to inspire Our People participating in the step challenge and those looking to ramp up their healthy habits, we looked back on the advice from some of our top steppers: Malcolm from the AU Sales team shared his words of wisdom. “The step challenge is just a natural extension to something I believe in. Keep yourself alive and moving and it stimulates your creativity and energises your whole work program. Even in a heavy day at work, you should deliberately break from your desk for four minutes every hour and walk briskly at military pace for four minutes. From a Step Challenge perspective, you have added 500 steps, and not only that, your blood is pumping, your brain is oxygenated, and you will be 20-30% faster and more productive in the next 56 minutes than you would have been if you had stayed 'slogging' at your desk.” Craig from the NZ Technology team arrives at work alert with steps on the counter. “Nothing better than the brisk morning air - I've found this to be one of the best ways to start the day. Over the past few weeks, I've been arriving at work with an average of at least 4,000 steps on the counter already from the morning walk, feeling more awake and alert throughout the day with a larger amount of energy.” Have you got a tip or story to share on how walking has positively impacted your health? P.S. Team UBT if you are yet to sign up, there is still time🚶♀️🚶♂️remember every small step we take together will make one giant leap towards our wellness. #creatingpossibilities #UBTTheBestPlaceToWork #walkingchallenge

Customer First is at the heart of everything we do. This is why our Net Promoter Score (NPS) is such a crucial metric for us, allowing us to see first-hand how happy our customers are with our work and interactions with UBT. We are always looking to move the dial, that’s why this month’s innovation challenge internally has been all around our NPS. 🥇 Next time you receive an NPS survey – take a moment to recognise Our People's best work or provide feedback to help us improve. #customerfirst #netpromoterscore #innovation

Leaning into courageous conversations, do we do it enough? 🤔 Being a global company, we see leaders and leadership qualities at every level. 💫 But when it comes to leadership one important element that is often not talked about is the ability to have courageous conversations. So, what are the key elements of a courageous conversation? 1️⃣ Listen 2️⃣ Embrace discomfort 3️⃣ Reflect and act 4️⃣ Celebrate progress Sounds easier than it is in person, but by using these four key elements to shape your conversation, you can lean into the conversation and create a positive impact. To Our People, who all embody characteristics of leaders in their own right, don’t step down from a courageous conversation, but stay hungry, humble and smart! #LeadershipSkills #CourageousConversations #UBTTheBestPlaceToWork

GSD – get stuff done!   Every one of Our People knows what this expression means, we even have a poster of it on some of our office walls.   We know that sometimes the hardest part of taking action is putting your shoes on or taking that first step. 👟   So, this phrase has become part of our culture and a rallying cry for Our People to help keep us focused on what matters and be execution oriented. 🥅   Often our biggest competition is procrastination, not other people.   How do you get stuff done?   #GetStuffDone #ExecutionOriented
