Operations Director: Role & Responsibilities

This Bakery is a third-generation, multi-site craft bakery with nearly 100 years experience of bringing freshly baked bread, buns, pastries and cakes to our local communities. In 2024 we will be entering an exciting phase of growth, expanding our retail outlets by 25% over the next 6 months.

To facilitate this growth, we are recruiting in all areas of our business and implementing a robust and dynamic new management structure.

Expectations

You will be a highly motivated Director of Operations overseeing our companys Production and the quality of products through the effective running of our Bakery. In this position you will need to be experienced in coordinating efficient production of the companys goods, ensuring that the companys overall operations are cost-effective and supervising the companys retention procedures and processes.

Responsibilities

  • Developing, improving and implementing operations and production plans to meet company goals
  • Managing the day-to-day operations of production, establishing company policies, implementing necessary changes and adhering to compliance procedures, laws and regulations
  • Evaluating overall company performance
  • Providing all necessary reports, assisting management in goal setting and promoting company growth and anticipating and forecasting trends and patterns of the company and marketplace
  • Adhering to department financial budgets, developing, monitoring and analysing the departmental and company budgets and financial reports.
  • Allocating the companys resources, materials and equipment to the most productive functions, supply chain and delivery management
  • Creating operation strategies to minimise stock losses, implementing initiatives to reduce company costs and increasing employee productivity
  • Train, mentor and manage your staff encourage, coach, and delegate, where appropriate.
  • Review staffing budgets in order to maximise production capabilities in the most financially efficient manner. Look to make efficiencies and improve productivity.
  • Performance manage all staff ensuring policies and procedures are adhered to. Seek advice from the HR Director if necessary.
  • Follow EHO processes in accordance to what has been provided by our EHO advisor. This must be followed and continued in order to comply with food health and safety. Ensure the bakery is compliant with all EHO standards and be present during inspections.

An Operations Director requires five years of experience in a management role and a further 5 or more years of experience as an Operations Director or equivalent. Experience in managing and leading a team in fast-paced work environments within the same industry is essential.
