  • Business: emap
  • Brand: Materials Recycling World (MRW)
  • Base Location: Fleet Street, London/Hybrid ( 3 days from home, 2 days in the office)
  • Employment Type: Full time, Permanent
  • Salary: £ DOE

Established in 1912, Materials Recycling World has been the leading provider of news, insight and market analysis for the UK waste management and recycling industry for more than a century.

It is a monthly printed magazine and website. It is the only subscription publication of its type to serve the UK waste and resources sector. The MRW National Recycling Awards is also the largest and most prestigious event for the industry.

The MRW editor has a recognised and respected role in the sector as the head of a well-trusted publication. As well as responsibility for production of the magazine and website, the editor has a wider responsibility in liaising with government, civil service, trade associations and businesses on issues affecting the sector.

Our readership includes directors and senior staff at waste management companies, local authority environment directors, finance directors, contract managers and recycling officers. We are also an essential point of refence for government officials.

Our sector is at the forefront of an ongoing national debate on resource efficiency, the green agenda and the circular economy. As such, MRW covers a very wide range of issues, including incoming legislation on extended producer responsibility, reform of recycling services, product design, business mergers and acquisitions, waste exports, environmental regulation and waste crime.

The editor will also need to understand the recycling markets for key materials including plastics, paper, glass, metals, food, textiles, waste electrical and electronic equipment.

MRW is a prime source for secondary materials pricing information for many traders in the sector. We are often cited as evidence as the sector signs contracts and as such we have a responsibility to report as accurately as possible.

This role is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious editor to lead MRW at a critical time for the resources sector. You will be in a position to lead the agenda and break big stories ahead of the mainstream media.

Applicants will need to demonstrate a high standard of quality journalism. They will also need to support the commercial, events and awards teams and be the public face of the brand.

There is scope for the new editor to put their own stamp on the publication, set up their own team and develop a strategy to secure its long-term future in a fast-changing market. As part of Emap, the editor will join colleagues at a stable of highly regarded and sector-leading publications.
