New research from YouGov is an eye opener…   ➡️ 56% of UK marketers still unfamiliar with ad targeting methods beyond third-party cookies (contextual, 1PD)   ➡️ A further 10% were ‘unsure’ whether they familiar or not   ➡️ 48% still not even sure when they’ll be ready for a cookieless internet   The good news:   Solutions are emerging to both of marketers' main concerns - how to reach target audiences (41%) and how to measure campaign effectiveness (39%) without cookies.   And if you’re one of the 56% (or is that 66%?) who just needs a crash course in the basics - what is advanced contextual targeting? Well. £1,500,000? We better get cracking. I’m beyond excited for us to have this support in what we’re doing. The budget will be nice, sure. But it’s not as nice as the conviction shown by those backing us. And then there’s the timing—right when our strategy and product roadmap is coming into clearer focus than ever. Lovely. I was going to put the link to the story in the comments because that’s what you’re supposed to do, apparently. I don’t think anybody really knows any more. While this means a lot to our early customers and our whole business, here’s what we’ll be doing with the marketing slice. We’ll be bringing our new perspective to market by sharing our frameworks and thinking. Exploring ways to connect the problems we know eCommerce teams are feeling with what we’re building. We’ll be investing more in building personal connections and mobilising “our people”. Getting to know our audience and giving them something outside of what we’re selling. We’ll be kicking off more growth experiments, while keeping tabs on how we want to market. That means considering our own customers’ intent rather than being cold SaaS sellers. SMG's Talking Shop Webinar took place yesterday and had a panel of experts from Boots UK, L'Oréal, and Bayer. It was a fantastic webinar on the continued growth and emergence of Retail Media Networks. Some key themes - 1st party data is key. A retailer's data is the backbone of their Retail Media Network - Use the 1st party data carefully. More regulation is around the corner - There will continue to be a growth in Retail media networks globally. Launch impactful creative that speaks to your users - Retail Media is no longer seen as bottom of the funnel. Use the channel for brand awareness too - Digital is not just on-site, but also means in-store digital and audio - Measurement remains a focus. The closed look attribution of RMNs is one of their major advantages - Short term objectives are often related to ROAS. But don't discount long term objectives such as number of new customers gained with a campaign - If you are a bricks and mortar retailer then run ROPO analysis (research online, purchase offline - and vice versa) as the majority of purchase still happen in-store - Lookalike targeting is key - both on site and off-site Look forward to the next webinar
