Lenders like Perenna are leading the way. Loan to income ratio seems to be the biggest barrier for this type of facility.

Today we're at the FinTech North Leeds Conference, where Whitecap played a prominent role in the event including helping chair some of the sessions, as part of the opening session Director Julian Wells, presented the launch of the SuperTech WM Professional Services Technology (ProfTech) Research and Innovation Roadmap, standing in for Hilary Smyth-Allen. The roadmap, created from over 150 hours of consultation with industry leaders, academia, and ProfTech stakeholders, is the UK's first unified multi-year plan. It outlines coordinated initiatives across FinTech, PropTech, LegalTech, and InsurTech, setting the stage for future innovation and collaboration. OFF-PAYROLL / IR35: On bringing about change - you have to act I will continue to make posts and inform you about some of what's happening in #ir35 matters, but one thing you really must understand... If you want this fixed, you have act yourself. The democratic political process requires you personally to exercise your democratic right, to speak/visit/write to your MP, and get them on board. The self-employed are currently politically homeless and there are lots of them. We are heading towards a General Election. You need to do something now. Writing once to your MP, or signing a digital position, is like firing a rubber band at a mugger and expecting it to make a difference. Don't get me started on "template letters" either. Put some elbow into it. You have to get off the couch, and get people together in your area, and go and see your MP. Explain to them to damaging effect IR35 has had on your life. Last week, Innovate Finance responded to three Payment Systems Regulator (PSR) consultations on tackling authorised push payment (APP) scams 3️⃣ 📝 For their mandatory reimbursement scheme to work, adequate, fully-functional and effective systems must be in place. In our response to the PSR consultation on compliance and monitoring, we raised the following issues to the PSR and Pay.UK: 👉 Challenges with manual reporting of APP scams by payment service providers;  👉 Uncertainty surrounding the cost and readiness of the claims management system; and  👉 Ensuring that all in-scope payment service providers are identified, registered and onboarded to the claims management system. Currently having the most painful experience trying to finalise a new car purchase. We spent about 2 hours in the showroom on Saturday, which just ended up in a deposit being paid and the car being secured, but then the real fun started… Yesterday, multiple links sent via email, with some codes sent separately that weren’t recognised by the links. Links sent for other stuff (the finance was done in a separate process) that contained read-only forms that needed to be signed online somehow. And then there were the greyed out buttons that wouldn’t activate, leaving the entire process stuck. My wife was supposed to be picking the car up this afternoon, but with none of the process completed (and no time to switch over insurance and tax anyway) it’s not happening - nor can it happen on any other day because the salesman is off til next week, and by next week the value of the PX will change so we would have to do it all over again 😐 All of this because their new software system is total shite. I feel bad for the salesmen. As it stands, there’s a 90% chance we won’t bother trying again next week. There’s probably a lesson in there somewhere about wholesale software system changes across entire franchises 🤔

Digital bank Monzo has swung to profit for the first time, writes Frances Coppola. But its new-found profitability could prove short-lived as the end may be nigh for “narrow banks”. Full-year results just released show pre-tax profits of £15.4mn, generated largely from higher net-interest margins. Monzo, like most banks, has benefited from the Bank of England’s high interest rates. But like many of the challenger banks that grew from the ashes of the 2008 financial crisis, Monzo should be classed as a “narrow bank”. Its business model is focused largely on depository services and payments, and what little lending it does is also payments-related (credit cards and “buy-now-pay-later”). Its balance sheet is more like that of a payments processor than a traditional bank: against some £11bn of deposits, it holds £7bn of cash reserves at the BoE and £3bn of government and supranational debt. Loans make up only 15 per cent of its balance sheet. This business model amounts to an unhedged bet on BoE interest rate policy, Frances writes.
