    "Trust is broken, and as soon as the market improves, I would (sic) jump ship." This criticism from an EY employee who remained at the company following its recent redundancy round is a sobering reminder of the importance of taking the right approach and providing expert Outplacement support during transition periods.     Every workplace has a resident cynic, right? 🙄 But it's important to remember that cynicism isn't a character flaw —it's often a defensive mechanism against stress, uncertainty, and change. While adopting a cynical mindset might seem wise and protective, Stanford University psychology professor Jamil Zaki highlights the pitfalls in a recent The Wall Street Journal article, pointing out, "By never trusting, cynics never lose. They also never win," emphasising how this mindset can block meaningful connections and collaborative success. Maintaining a positive and engaged workforce during organisational change is challenging. The redundancy process is inherently stressful for everyone involved—managers, at-risk employees, and those who remain. This period can heighten uncertainty and cynicism, affecting workplace morale and productivity.
